SuperLingual! (Part 1)
Who am I? Who am I? Someone dreaming to speak 10 languages someday :-) I already know English, Tagalog... I can read and write in Spanish... What else... studying Russian alphabet and Japanese alphabet... My target is 10... and if God wills it, 20 or more :-)
History (kind of) how I started studying these languages:
1. Tagalog - well, this is my mother tongue! Ever since a child, I spoke this! Maybe there are Tagalog words that I don't know, but ok... I'm a native Tagalog speaker... Tagalog words that I don't know of? Well, you know, those Shakespearean-like words.
2. English - When I was a kid, my mother used to read this book... what's that? Where you could read words like, "Run, child, run." ...In any case, yes, just like Tagalog, I started to learn English early... however, I may state here that I'm not that very, very fluent in English. It is my second language, and we speak Tagalog here all the time...
3. Spanish - My first encounter with real Spanish studying was when I was in college. Unfortunately, due to immaturity, I was not wise enough then to take this subject seriously. It took me three years before I gained the seriousness to study this language again. The book that truly helped me to study languages again is "Spanish Without the Fuss" (correct title?) by Living Language... after that, I would frequent second-hand bookstores to buy cheap books that could teach me Spanish... so, yes, soy autodidacta. I am self-taught... and the book that inspired me to study languages again was a second-hand book... i.e. the book that I have just mentioned...
4. Italian - The same with Spanish... only months later... this used to be my major in college... but not anymore. I also taught myself how to speak (or, at least, understand) Italian... I also started with the book "Italian Without the Fuss" (correct title again?) of Living Language... and the book was brand new when I bought it...
5. French - No "French Without The Fuss"... I mean... in order to learn French, I bought second-books that could not really satisfy my learning needs... However, I did learn some French... though not enough to survive, just like Italian...
I still have two languages to explain, Russian and Japanese, but I am running late... I will explain maybe on my next blog...
